China Unveils First Domestically Developed Tomato Breeding Gene Chip
China has introduced “Jingfan Core 1.0,” the country’s first domestically developed high-precision tomato breeding gene chip, ending its long-term reliance on imported tools for tomato breeding. Developed in Beijing, the platform achieves independent control across the entire technical chain, including physical chips, scanners, chemical reagents, and software algorithms.
The gene chip contains nearly 5,000 key genetic loci derived from over 1,100 tomato inbred lines, enabling precise identification of critical agronomic traits such as yield, quality, disease resistance, and stress tolerance. By serving as a “genetic ID card” for early-stage plant selection, the chip transitions traditional breeding methods toward data-driven precision agriculture.
Validated with a 99.12 percent detection rate and 99.85 percent repeatability, the technology will support eight core agricultural applications ranging from germplasm identification to transgenic detection and intellectual property verification.
UK Launches £13 Million Fund to Drive Agricultural Innovation
A new £13 million investment through the Farming Innovation Programme is set to accelerate the transition of cutting-edge research from laboratory settings directly onto UK farms. Announced by Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle in partnership with Innovate UK, the latest competition awards individual grants ranging between £1 million and £3 million to high-potential agricultural projects.
This funding aims to empower researchers, farmers, and agri-tech businesses to commercialize scalable products and services that boost farm productivity, resilience, and sustainability. By addressing urgent sector issues ranging from labor shortages to reduced reliance on antibiotics, the program actively strengthens the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of UK food production.
DEEP Robotics Deploys Lynx M20S “Robot Dogs” in Turpan Grape Harvest
Chinese robotics manufacturer DEEP Robotics has introduced its Lynx M20S wheeled-legged quadruped robots to commercial vineyards in Turpan, Xinjiang, cutting manual haulage labor during the grape harvest by over 70 percent.
Rather than picking fruit directly, the units carry harvested grape baskets weighing up to 35 kilograms through 50-centimeter narrow vine rows to central collection points, operating reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to 50°C.
By automating basket transit, growers prevent picked grapes from rapidly dehydrating in heat while allowing human pickers to focus entirely on selective harvesting. The deployment reflects a broader push to automate high-value, labor-intensive specialty crops in response to a shrinking rural workforce.
For international agricultural markets like India, the Xinjiang trials offer a compelling model for deploying legged robotics to address rising seasonal labor costs and workforce shortages in specialty farming.
Paleo Secures $2.3 Million to Drive Regulatory Filings for Precision-Fermented Myoglobin
Belgian food-tech startup Paleo has raised €2 million ($2.3 million) in a funding round led by Beyond Impact to advance regulatory submissions and commercialization for its yeast-derived myoglobin.
Utilizing precision fermentation with the yeast strain Komagataella phaffii, Paleo produces non-GMO, bioidentical heme proteins—including beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and tuna variants—that replicate the authentic umami flavor, aroma, and color transitions of traditional meat.
Over the past two years, the company reduced its production costs by a factor of 613 using contract manufacturing scale-ups. Eden is leveraging shifting European regulations and chemical restrictions by pairing with major partners such as Corteva Agriscience and Syngenta to broaden its distribution network.

Novonesis Commits €600 Million to Next-Generation Enzyme Facility in India
Global biosolutions provider Novonesis is investing €600 million to expand its manufacturing site in Patalganga, India, establishing a next-generation enzyme production hub designed to meet rising international demand.
Expected to become fully operational by 2030, the state-of-the-art facility will produce industrial enzymes serving key sectors including biofuels, food and beverages, and household care products.
The strategic expansion positions Novonesis closer to fast-growing emerging markets across India, the Middle East, and Africa, strengthening supply chain resilience while complementing existing global facilities in Thailand, China, Brazil, and the United States.
Aligned with net-zero ambitions, the plant incorporates sustainable infrastructure such as freshwater recycling and integrated heat pumps to lower energy consumption and minimize Scope 1 and Scope 2 operational emissions.
Swaraj Tractors and Mahindra Susten Commission 42 MWp Captive Solar Project in Punjab
Swaraj Tractors and Mahindra Susten have commissioned a 42 MWp group captive solar project in Bathinda, Punjab. Spanning 141 acres, the solar installation utilizes high-efficiency N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules and semi-automated robotic cleaning systems that conserve an estimated 1.92 million liters of water annually.
The project will generate approximately 61.54 million units of clean electricity per year, supplying roughly 50 percent of the energy required for Swaraj’s manufacturing, assembly, and foundry facilities in Mohali while offsetting over 42,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
With over 97 percent of components sourced domestically, the installation marks Mahindra Susten’s expansion into commercial and industrial power delivery via a group captive model and significantly advances Swaraj Tractors’ low-carbon manufacturing commitments.
AM/NS India and ICAR-IARI Partner to Research Sustainable Agriculture Uses for Iron Ore Tailings
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) and the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance research on converting Iron Ore Tailings (IOTs) into valuable agricultural inputs.
Building on promising preliminary trials conducted in 2024 across Delhi and Kirandul, Chhattisgarh, the long-term multi-season studies will evaluate how nutrient-rich mining by-products containing silica, iron oxides, calcium, and magnesium perform on crops like paddy, wheat, and vegetables.
The collaborative project aims to establish scientific safety guidelines by evaluating crop responses, soil health, nutrient dynamics, leaching, and potential phyto-toxicity.
If successful, the initiative will advance circular economy practices by reducing industrial waste storage needs while offering a cost-effective, biofortifying solution to correct iron deficiencies in degraded soils.
Center Approves ₹1,183 Crore for Agricultural Schemes Across Five States
The Union Government of India has approved a second mother sanction of ₹1,183.11 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana (KY) to boost agricultural growth across five states: Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttarakhand, and Tripura.
Announced by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a high-level review meeting, the funds aim to reduce farming costs, improve irrigation efficiency, and expand agricultural mechanization. Andhra Pradesh received the largest allocation at ₹409.40 crore, followed by Tamil Nadu (₹355.88 crore), Odisha (₹219.65 crore), Uttarakhand (₹106.67 crore), and Tripura (₹91.51 crore).
The central funding directly targets micro-irrigation subsidies via ‘Per Drop More Crop’, machinery incentives through the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), oilseed production expansion, and soil health monitoring to ensure sustainable farmer profitability.
