Nanjing Agricultural University Licenses Broad-Spectrum Biocontrol Strain to Changqing in Exclusive Deal
Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU) has signed an exclusive patent licensing agreement with Changqing (Hubei) Biotechnology for the broad-spectrum biocontrol strain Bacillus velezensis DMW1 for RMB 1.5 million, or approximately USD 210,000.
The strain, isolated from potato field soil, has demonstrated inhibitory activity against a range of soil-borne pathogens, including oomycetes, fungi and bacteria. Pot trials showed promising efficacy against soybean Phytophthora root rot and tomato bacterial wilt, along with plant growth-promoting effects.
The patent portfolio also covers a microbial seed-coating formulation, creating a pathway toward commercial product development. The agreement is the first tangible technology-transfer outcome from the two parties’ joint R&D partnership established in December 2025.
For Changqing, the deal provides exclusive access to the strain, protected intellectual property and a potential route toward product registration and commercialization.
The transaction highlights the growing role of microbial seed coatings and Bacillus-based biocontrol technologies as alternatives or supplements to chemical crop protection.
Bayer Advances Plan to Launch 10 Blockbuster Agricultural Products Over the Next Decade
Bayer is progressing with its plan to launch 10 blockbuster agricultural products over the next 10 years, covering seeds, crop traits and crop protection. Two products, Plenexos insecticide and the Preceon Smart Corn System, have already entered commercialisation, while Vyconic is expected to launch in the United States and Canada in 2027.
Intacta 5+ is also planned for Brazil for the 2027/28 growing season. Bayer defines a blockbuster as a product with expected peak sales potential of at least €500 million.
The company is combining AI-enabled precision breeding, genome editing and its CropKey platform to accelerate agricultural innovation. Its R&D pipeline includes new herbicide-tolerance technologies, novel modes of action and next-generation crop traits.
Alongside product development, Bayer is implementing its Five-Year Framework to reduce costs, improve profitability and drive above-market growth.
Syngenta’s Golden Harvest Unveils 2027 Corn and Soybean Lineup with New Nematode-Resistant Varieties
Syngenta’s Golden Harvest seed brand has introduced its 2027 corn and soybean lineup, featuring 14 new corn hybrids and 22 new soybean varieties for U.S. row-crop growers.
The new soybean portfolio includes 15 varieties based on the Enlist trait platform and seven using Extend Flex, offering different herbicide-tolerance options for weed management. Three new soybean varieties feature Peking-source resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN), targeting fields where the pest has overcome the widely used PI 88788 resistance source.
The new lines are designed to address increasing pest and disease pressure while supporting yield potential and crop performance.
Golden Harvest is also emphasizing traits such as root and stalk strength, early emergence and insect protection in its corn lineup. The expanded SCN-resistant portfolio reflects a broader industry shift toward diversifying genetic sources of nematode resistance.
The new lineup is expected to give U.S. growers and retailers greater flexibility in selecting varieties suited to local pest, disease and weed-management challenges.
Vylor Launches Vylor Edge to Accelerate Investment in Global Agriculture Innovation
Vylor, the advanced seed and genetics company set to spin off from Corteva on October 1, 2026, has launched Vylor Edge, a new investment platform focused on accelerating next-generation agricultural technologies. The platform will work with startups, entrepreneurs, universities and the broader innovation ecosystem through equity investments and strategic partnerships.
Its initial focus areas include gene editing and advanced breeding, protein engineering, artificial intelligence and digital technology platforms. Vylor Edge aims to combine Vylor’s R&D capabilities, global presence and commercialization infrastructure with technologies developed by external innovators.
The platform will also support promising technologies from early development through commercialization and adoption by growers. Its portfolio will initially build on investments and collaborations previously managed through Corteva Catalyst, which are transitioning to Vylor as part of the spin-off.
Vylor plans to expand these existing partnerships while identifying new opportunities that can address key agricultural production challenges and drive innovation globally.
Carbon Robotics launches Carbon Autonomy Ready Program with Great Plains Manufacturing
Carbon Robotics has launched its Carbon Autonomy Ready program to help agricultural implement manufacturers make their equipment compatible with autonomous tractor operations.
Great Plains Manufacturing is the program’s first member, integrating its Implement Command system with Carbon Autonomy to enable real-time data exchange and automatic adjustments to settings such as depth, down pressure and leveling.
The partnership aims to improve field efficiency, reduce operating costs, address skilled labor shortages and increase tractor utilization by enabling longer autonomous working hours.
The program is designed to support a wide range of implements, giving farmers greater flexibility in choosing equipment while maintaining autonomous capabilities.

Haryana to develop regional crop calendar, explore free Jeevamrit supply from gaushalas
Haryana’s agriculture department is planning a region-specific crop calendar based on local climate and farming conditions to help farmers select suitable crops, reduce input costs and improve farm incomes.
The state government is also exploring a pilot project to produce Jeevamrit using cow dung and urine at gaushalas and provide it to farmers free of cost to encourage natural farming and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.
The initiative will focus on promoting crops requiring less water and fertilizers, while also encouraging crop diversification and resource-efficient agriculture. The government plans to identify improved, export-oriented varieties of rice and pulses and ensure the availability of certified quality seeds.
Mechanization for cotton and pulse harvesting and threshing will also be promoted to reduce labour costs and improve farm efficiency.
